Blytheville trends for wrong reason
(Column ~ 08/12/15)
Monday morning, Blytheville was trending. Unfortunately, the attention came via another tragic, senseless incident that seems to be becoming a trend itself-- resolving differences by firing bullets into another human being. Alongside Curiosity Rover, Megyn Kelly and Frank Gifford, Facebook listed Blytheville, Arkansas as trending for the weekend domestic-related shooting that left 19-year-old Adeline King dead and 11 others injured...

Cutting the garden down to size
(Column ~ 08/12/15)
Well, I finally did it this year. I bit off more than I could chew, planted too much garden for this crusty old body to keep up with. Even so, it has been a great growing year. So far, I have harvested two gallons of green beans; a quart of garden peas; a quart of pinto beans; about a pint of black beans; 25 garlic bulbs; at least that many large onions, and that many again to still come out of the ground, even though I have been pulling them salad sized pretty regularly as well; a gallon of carrots; 15 cucumbers (I pulled the vines after I was finished with my pickle canning); and about a dozen squash.. ...

All city streets need attention
(Letter to the Editor ~ 08/12/15)
Dear Editor: I bought a home and moved to 815 Delmar in March 1996. At that time I noticed that Delmar St had a lot of damage to it in the east lane where it intersects with Scott St. Over the past 19 years I have watched as it has continually gotten worse with winter rains and freezing. This street has continually gotten worse with no attempt to repair it in the past 19 years...

"Blytheville"
(Letter to the Editor ~ 08/12/15)
What pride is there in being ranked Arkansas' #1 worst city? What's the gain in refusing to help law enforcement arrest the culprits of showing no-pity? Why must a place that's predominantly the minority keep itself in shame? Why must the young take each other's life,...

Community should be centered on family
(Letter to the Editor ~ 08/12/15)
To the Editor: It is disheartening to hear and see of the mass killings that are taking place in OUR own hometown. It is senseless. We as a community must stop killing each other, whether black on black crime or crimes of hate. Many times the issues result in the same conclusion, death of a life and many times of innocent people. Nevertheless, both communication and patience will solve these problems...
