John J. Kennon, 77-year-old resident of Harviell, Mo., departed this life on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2024, in Jonesboro, following a brief battle with cancer. Mr. Kennon was born Nov. 3, 1946, in Butler County, Mo., to the late Joe and Florence Medlin Kennon. John retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service; 1965-1985. After retiring he again retired from Nucor Yamato Steel in Blytheville. He loved horses, scuba diving and investments, and he was also a member of the Maynard Saddle Club. He attended Second Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff.

On Sept. 7, 2019, John and Carolyn Staten Morgan were married; she survives. Also surviving are his children, Jeff Kennon (Rae) of Blytheville, Gene Kennon (Marilyn) of Blytheville, Joy Belton (Steve) of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Jill McGruder (Curt) of Harviell, Mo., and John Morgan (Aileen) of Jacksonville, Fla.; sister, Connie Steele (Larry) of Doniphan, Mo.; brother, Larry Casteel of Doniphan; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 30, at 2 p.m. in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel at Doniphan, Mo., with pastor Steve Francis officiating. Visitation will begin at noon on Tuesday, and burial will be in the Johnston Chapel Cemetery.
