Thomas Eugene “Tommy” DePriest Jr., resident of Lake City, departed this life on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., at the age of 60. Thomas was born in Alton, Ill., on Oct. 9, 1963, the son of Thomas Eugene DePriest Sr. and Margaret (Ball) DePriest.

Thomas was a 1981 graduate of McCrory High School, and attended gunsmithing school in Denver, Colo. He was of the Christian faith, and he retired as manager from Nucor-Yamato Steel Company in Blytheville following 33 years of dedicated service. Thomas married the love of his life, soulmate, best friend, and everything, Candie (Stull) DePriest in 1995. He was an avid outdoorsman, and he loved sharing his most treasured activities with his loved ones and doing things as a family. Thomas enjoyed spending time at his hunting lodge at East Lake, crappie fishing, all types of hunting, especially squirrel hunting with his pet and constant companion, Miller, relaxing around a campfire, and caddying for his son at golf tournaments. Thomas had an immense love for his family, and he woke each day with the purpose of ensuring they were cared for, whether it was preparing their favorite meals, being a shoulder to lean on, or cheering them on, he strived to always meet his family’s wants and needs.

Mr. DePriest was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Candie DePriest of the home; a son, Thomas Eugene “Trey” DePriest, III of Lake City; a daughter, Hollie Goodson and husband, Les, of Monette; a sister, Kim DePriest Reeves, and husband, Roger, of McCrory; a granddaughter, Hadlie Goodson; niece and nephew, Lindsey Scarbrough and Colby Reeves; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 6, in the Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in McCrory with Bro. Bobby Keen officiating. Interment will follow in Pumpkin Bend Cemetery near McCrory.

Friends may visit at the funeral home from 1 p.m. to service time.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Tony Ball, Harold Damron, Curtis Hawkins, Colby Reeves, Phil Reynolds and Dr. Steve Wampler.
