Gayla L. Honeycutt

Monday, November 27, 2023

After a lengthy battle, Gayla L. Honeycutt slipped the ties that bound her to this mortal plain and stepped peacefully into that good night on Nov. 26, 2023. She faced her illness with the same courage, bravery, and dignity she displayed throughout her life. Her positive, upbeat attitude was an inspiration to all she met, and her spirit flowed into the hearts of those who loved her. She was born in Kansas City, Mo., to Lyle C. and Vivian (McCaslin) Franklin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Larry G. Franklin.

She is survived by her husband, James Richard Honeycutt; a daughter, Jennie N. Pollard; son-in-law, Steve Pollard; and grandsons, Liam and Aiden, as well as her beloved puppy, Winston.

She graduated with a PhD in Library Science from the University of Missouri. An avid reader, she enjoyed her work as a librarian at the Kansas City School System, the Watson, Ess, Marshall and Enggas Law Firm, as head librarian at the Barstow School and the Kansas City Public Library where she worked in the Outreach Department. After retirement she continued library work as a volunteer at the Mid-Continent Library in Harrisonville, Mo.

In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations be made to the University of Kansas Cancer Research Center.

Arrangements are by Langsford Funeral Home, 115 SW 3rd Street, Lee’s Summit, MO 64063.
