Sandra Greer Mahan, 78, of Dell passed away Saturday, Aug. 26, 2023, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Sandra was born in Barnesville, Ga., to Willard and Nell Hooker Pate. She worked in the cafeteria at Dell Schools for many years and later worked for Wal-Mart before retiring. She was a faithful member of Dell Baptist Church. She served in many capacities at the church including helping with Vacation Bible School as well as the bus ministry. She was a member of the Farmer’s in the Dell cancer relay team, known for being third in the nation for fundraising. Sandra volunteered in helping with their annual Christmas Tour of Homes in Dell, Blytheville and Armorel, bake sales, yard sales and chili suppers. Sandra was fond of nature. She could name any bird as they flew into her yard, especially hummingbirds. She was a gardener of many plants including banana trees, dahlias and moon flowers. Sandra was an excellent cook and was known for her crispy sugar cookies. Sandra had a love for traveling and Branson was always her favorite place to go. She was an Elvis enthusiast and was a collector of memorabilia. Sandra was well known in Dell for being a member of the local “Golden Girls” with her dear friends, Joyce (Blanche), Cathy (Dorothy), Sandra (Rose), and herself being Sophia. Sandra loved animals, especially her cat Bella who has been a faithful companion and source of love.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Eileen Presley; and son-in-law, Jimmy Wright.

Sandra is survived by her husband, Louis Mahan of the home; stepchildren, Troy Mahan and his wife Vicki of Gonzales, La., Carl Mahan and his wife Carol of Zachary, La., and Gary Greer and his wife Deana of Dell; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Brenda Pate of Griffin, Ga., Norma Herndon of Atlanta, Ga., and Diane Fleenor of Marietta, Ga.; and her dear friends, Joyce Jackson, Cathy Huddleston, Sandra Williams and Barbara Arnold; and sister-in-law, Julie Mahan of Fort Worth, Texas.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 30, at 11 a.m. in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sunny Williams and Rev. Nathan Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Dogwood Cemetery.
