Vernice (Jordan) Brown

Tuesday, June 20, 2023

Vernice (Jordan) Brown was born May 9, 1943, in Joiner to Arthur and Rosie Jordan. She was the seventh of 11 children. She began her formal education at Shawnee Elementary School in Joiner and Wilson Trade School in Wilson. Vernice spent her last two years of high school at William R. Golden High School in Turrell, where she graduated in 1961.

Shortly after leaving Arkansas, she moved to Los Angeles, where she met and married the love of her life, Henry Brown. Their nearly 61-year marriage produced three children: Gerald, Elaine and Patrice. They lived a happy, good and prosperous life in southern California until retiring to Arkansas, where they lived approximately 25 years. In November 2022, Henry and Vernice relocated to Corona, Calif., to live closer to their children and grandchildren.

Despite several years of illness, Vernice overcame each health challenge that came before her. She continued to fight a long and tiresome battle until June 4, 2023. With her husband and children at her bedside, Vernice heard The Lord say, “Servant, your journey has ended. No more wandering through this narrow land, no more sickness and pain. Come home to eternal rest and peace.”

Full of joy, love and light, Vernice was a kind, loving and generous person to her family, friends and neighbors. She loved helping others, and many remark on her ever-present smile, warmth and ability to make everyone feel welcome and appreciated. She will also be remembered for her sense of humor and honesty.

She leaves her loving husband, Henry Brown; her children, Gerald, Elaine and Patrice; and her grandchildren, Nate and John Shaw. Her tight-knit family includes her siblings: James Jordan, Lena Smith, Bobbie Love, Rev. John Jordan, Armentria Golliday, and Shirley Dubose, as well as a host of nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 24, at 1 p.m. in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Jordan officiating. Burial will follow at Dogwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until service time at Cobb Funeral Home. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.cobbfuneralhome.com.
