Mr. Elgene Reed Hamilton, 88, of the Cole Ridge Community, passed from this life on Friday, Nov. 12, 2021, at his home. Born to Orel and Estelle Reed Hamilton in Hector, he was a faithful member of the Cole Ridge Baptist Church and a retired veteran of the United States Army. He served his country with honor in Vietnam, Korea, Germany and many other places. Elgene’s training as a motor-pool mechanic would serve him well in the years to come. After his retirement from the Army, he was to continue working in various sorts of occupations. He worked in the Civil Service Division and also became a farmer, enjoying working his farm in the Cole Ridge Community. He later was to become a substitute teacher and a school bus monitor in the Gosnell School District. Elgene loved sports especially, football, baseball and basketball. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, cheering them on in the good and bad years.

Elgene was a very devoted Christian whose love for the Lord was the most integral part of his life. He was faithful to his church, always being available to support it in any way he was needed. His love for his family was only exceeded by his love for God. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who inspired his family, friends and anyone he came in contact with by his work ethics and his daily Christian walk.

Elgene was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 59 years, Annie Margaret Hamilton; sons, Dana Elgene Hamilton and Mark James Hamilton; three brothers and two sisters.

Elgene is survived by his children, David and Sylvia Hamilton of Jonesboro and Terry and Angela Hamilton of Portageville, Mo.; grandchildren, Melissa Gardner, Jerry Bryeans and Jonathan Mark Hamilton; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
