Mary Lynn Leggett

Mary Lynn Leggett, 90, of Gosnell, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2020, at her home.

Mary was the daughter of Claud and Vela Tomlinson Duncan. Mary attended school at Dell and graduated from Gosnell High School. In 1959, she began college at Arkansas State University all while working a full time job and raising her children. Mary’s determination and dedication to receiving her college degree led her to become a graduate of Arkansas State in 1970. She went on to teach kindergarten and first grade at Gosnell Elementary before retiring. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and received numerous state and national awards while in the sorority. Mary was a member of Gosnell Baptist Church and was always involved with her church and community. She was a member of the Arkansas Retired Teachers Association. Mary was a wonderful cook and loved to entertain guests in her home. She also enjoyed being in her garden, sewing and reading.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jolly Leggett; her parents; brother, Carl “Tootsie” Duncan; and sisters, Loretta Parish and Bernice Walters.

Mary leaves four children, Claudia Briley and her husband Max of Blytheville, Ted Leggett and his wife DeeAnn of Huntsville, Ala., Susie Anderson and her husband Craig of Leewood, Kan., and Russell Leggett and his wife Carla of Gosnell; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 15, at 11 a.m. in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Eddie Clemons and Dr. Max Briley officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5-7 p.m. and Saturday morning from 10:00 until service time at Cobb Funeral Home. The family requests memorials be made to Gosnell Baptist Church.
