Tommy L. McCanless, 73, of Manila, formerly of Blytheville, passed away at home on Thursday morning surrounded by his family. He was born in Wilson on June 29, 1945, to Ernest “Bo” Franklin McCanless and Gladys Bernice Cissell McCanless. Tommy really enjoyed to BBQ. His specialties included smoked ham, butts, and drunk chicken. He also was a sportsman. He loved to watch baseball and football. He also liked to play poker. He was a great swimmer. He was a lifeguard in his younger years at the pool at Walker Park.

Tommy, his dad, and his brother Gary used to be owners and operators of T&G Mobile Homes. His brother Gary and Tommy also were owners of Chrysler Plymouth Dealership in Blytheville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two special dogs, Simon and Ticker.

He is survived by his daughter, Heather Carmichael and her husband Gary, of Manila; two grandchildren, Dylan Carmichael of Manila and Dalton Carmichael of Brookland; one brother, Gary McCanless and his wife Suzette, of Palmetto Fla.; four sisters, Faye Bullinton of Savannah Tenn., Gail Shannon of Blytheville, Judy Connell of Blytheville, and Debbie Smith of Bellville, Ill.; numerous nieces and nephews; his stepmother, Phyllis McCanless, of Blytheville; his ex-wife and special friend, Brenda Jolliff, of Blytheville; his dog, Myrtle; and many friends that will miss him dearly.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at Bethany Baptist Church in Gosnell with Bro. Gary Hyde and Dr. Tommy Carney officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in his memory to St. Judes Children’s Hospital or Bethany Baptist Church.
