Citizen ready to help clean up community

To the editor:

When I came to Blytheville from Florida in 1961, people were living in most of the homes around town and the city was better kept. Now people have moved to different parts of the United States. Some have moved north, south, east and west in hopes of a better life and living conditions.

Unfortunately, some of them have left their homes sitting around, and the homes are now in bad condition. Many have burned up, are rotting, decaying and are contaminated. Some people have stolen things out of them, windows and doors are gone and some still have fallen trees on top of them from the ice storm. Even my own home has fallen down and I am unable to sell it. When my 9-year-old grandson visited from California, he said the city reminded him of a war zone.

This has helped spark my drive to want to do something about the appearance of Blytheville in regard to deteriorating homes and yards. I play lead guitar and am willing to use my talent and with the help of others start a gospel program to raise money to pay for cleanup, as well as heavy duty equipment, because some of the houses and yards are years overdue for cleanup.

I am so passionate and serious about my desire to clean up the neighborhoods in Blytheville and pray that it will be taken seriously. I'm ready to clean up our neighborhoods so they will be beautiful and people will enjoy seeing our city as much as I have in the past.
