John (Butch) Smothermon, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away April 11, 2024, at his home in Hernando, Fla. He was born July 17, 1946, in Blytheville to James and Ruth Smothermon.

Butch is survived by his devoted wife, Shari Smothermon, whom he married in 2013, and his cherished daughters, Jamie Davis (husband Ben), Jennifer MacGregor (husband Graham), Amy Arnold (husband Rand), and Michelle Simpson. He is also survived by his seven adored grandchildren, whose joy brought light to his life. He is survived by his older brother, Pat Smothermon, and nephew, Mike Smothermon (wife Vicky).

Butch was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ruth Smothermon, and his wife of 24 years, Sherry Smothermon.

Butch dedicated 23 years of his life in service to his country in the U.S. Army. His service as a helicopter pilot in the U.S. Army, particularly during the Vietnam War, showcases his bravery and commitment. His stories undoubtedly left a lasting impact on his family, captivating them with tales of his experiences.

Following his military career, Butch ventured into the automotive industry, eventually rising to the position of general manager at Pueblo Dodge. However, retirement beckoned, and at the age of 50, Butch embraced a new chapter of life, relocating to Austin, Texas, where he met his wife.

Together, they embarked on a journey filled with love, laughter and adventure, spending the last 20 years exploring the beauty of Austin, Florida and Tennessee. Butch had a passion for golf, and many mornings would find him on the golf course, enjoying the camaraderie of friends and the serenity of the game.

Butch’s welcoming nature and warm hospitality truly made him a treasure to those fortunate enough to know him. Butch always greeted guests with his twinkling blue eyes and their favorite cocktail in hand. His quiet and gentle demeanor made him a calming presence in any social setting, allowing others to relax and enjoy themselves in his company.

Butch’s legacy of love, integrity and generosity will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who had the privilege of crossing paths with him.
