Versie Lee Knox Thomas

Versie Lee Knox Thomas was born Feb. 3, 1943, to Lillian and Johnny Knox. Versie departed this life Feb. 21, 2024, at NEA Hospital in Jonesboro. She was preceded in death by her parents; three children, Joann Cole, Leola Clark and James Cole Clark; lifelong friend, J.L. Lockhart; several siblings and two grandchildren.

Versie was the oldest out of 14 sisters and brothers. Versie gave her life to Christ at a very young age. She joined FFORM at the age of 81 years old. She worked as a healthcare worker in Chicago, Ill., and also in Marked Tree. She picked and chopped cotton, worked at Shawnee and was a housekeeper in Wilson and Joiner.

She leaves to cherish her memories 11 grandchildren, Margaret Cole, Tammy Boone (Clifton), Jessie Cole (Shun), Kish Clark (Andrew), Marquse Bell, Aretha Miles (Jeffery), Beatrice Bell, Bianca Bell, Johnny Bell (Jasmine), Stephanie King (Jerome) and Lonnell Wiley (Kisha); siblings, Doal Knox (Willie Mae), Marshall Knox (Sandra), Johnny Knox Jr., Annie Knox (Tom) Cathy Knox , Mary Louise Knox (sister/ niece); close cousin, Erma Jean King; 37 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 2, from 10-10:55 a.m. at Greater Macedonia Baptist Church, 50 S. Jefferson, Wilson. Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Mt Olive Cemetery in Evadale.
