Hugh Don Ashmore, beloved husband, dedicated community member, and cherished friend, passed away on Feb. 18, 2024. His journey touched the lives of many. Hugh was married to Martha Dyer on Jan. 8, 1955, and their bond was a testament to enduring love lasting 69 years.

Hugh was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Lewis and Ruth Ashmore, as well as his brother, James “Bud” Ashmore, and sister, Ruth Ann Ashmore Brown. Their memories will forever be cherished alongside his.

He is survived by his loving wife, Martha Ashmore, who stood by his side through life’s joys and challenges. Hugh’s legacy continues through his sons, Jerry and Mike Ashmore (Robbynn); and his grandsons, Landon and Evan Ashmore, who were a source of pride and joy for him; three brothers, Joe Ashmore, Jack Ashmore, Danny Ashmore; and a sister, Carolyn Kinkead.

Affectionately known as “Bug, Uncle Bug, and Hugh Bug,” Hugh’s warm presence and infectious spirit touched the lives of all who knew him. As a self-employed farmer for 46 years, Hugh’s commitment to the land was unparalleled. He nurtured crops and cultivated connections within the agricultural community. His dedication extended beyond the fields as he served for 26 years on the Armorel School Board, shaping the educational landscape for generations to come.

Hugh’s faith was the cornerstone of his life. For over 68 years, he was an active member of Armorel Baptist Church, where he served as church secretary for many years. His unwavering devotion and service left an indelible mark on the congregation.

In his youth, Hugh pursued his passion for baseball, trying out for the St. Louis Cardinals in his early 20s. His love for the sport continued throughout his life, and he imparted his knowledge and enthusiasm as a Little League baseball coach.

Hugh’s legacy will live on through the generations he touched. Alongside his brother-in-law, Billy Brown, he was honored by having the Armorel High School baseball stadium named after him—a testament to his impact on the community he cherished.

In addition to his remarkable contributions to his community, Hugh was also a dedicated blood donor, giving selflessly to those in need. He surpassed expectations by donating the maximum amount allowed, leaving a legacy of compassion and generosity.
