Charles E. Wilburn

Charles E. Wilburn was born April 24, 1958, in Sunset, Ark., to the late Robbie Lee Loving and James Wilburn Sr. Charles was called to his heavenly home on Jan. 10, 2024.

Charles graduated from Marion High School class of 1977. Soon after graduating from high school, in 1979 he enlisted in the Arkansas National Guard Army. After much hard work he was promoted to staff sergeant in 1995. In addition, he served as a military police officer. He served in the Army for 24 years and retired in 2003. He loved The Lord with all of his heart. He professed Jesus to be his Lord and Savior at an early age. He married his true love, Barbara Janis (Williams) Wilburn on Nov. 23, 1985. During their marriage, they had two daughters, Raquel J. Wilburn (deceased 1988) and Danielle J. Wilburn. For more than 20 years, they remained in holy matrimony until Barbara’s death on April 12, 2009.

Among his many talents he was a licensed CDL driver. He drove trucks with many companies and worked with Roadway Express/YRC from 1987 until his recent retirement in 2023.

Charles Wilburn had many hobbies. He enjoyed watching football on Sunday afternoons, he cheered on the Memphis Tigers and he loved to call his daughter (Danielle) every time the Memphis Grizzlies lost. Charles LOVED to recycle scrap metal. Many people know him as the “junk man.” But most importantly he had a passion to help others and he was going to make sure you left with a smile and a laugh.

He is preceded in death by three sisters, Gloria Smith, Flora Bell Wilburn, Phylis Dancy, and one brother, William Smith.

He leaves to cherish his memories one daughter, Danielle J. Wilburn who currently resides in Sacramento, Calif.; sisters, Peggy Harris, Edna Davis (Aaron), Patricia Fisher; brothers, Billy Scott, James Wilburn Jr. (Roberta), Robert Williams, Willie Wilburn, Ricky Wilburn, and Perry Harris; sister-in-law, Yolandra D. Rodgers; three-brothers-in-law, Mitchell Trent Williams (Pam), Darrell M. Spencer (Cynthia), Cedric L. Williams; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 26, from 5-7 p.m. at Wolfe Brothers Funeral Home, 128 South 7th Street, West Memphis. Funeral service will be held Saturday, Jan. 27, at Southside Church of God in Christ, 1112 McLemore, Memphis, TN. Interment will be at Marion Memorial Cemetery in Marion.
