Sharron Geraldine “Squirrel” Cherry

Sharron Geraldine “Squirrel” Cherry, 90, of Manila, widow of Mr. Dean Cherry, passed from this life Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2023, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro. Born in Steele, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Clarence Brooks and Annie Modine Garrison Sammons. She was a longtime Manila resident and had been employed by the former United Telephone Company, Razorback Aircraft Service and Manila Public Schools. Geraldine was a charter member of Bethany Baptist Church in Manila where she taught Sunday school for 34 years. She was an avid reader and loved gardening vegetables and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Everett Sammons and Bill Sammons; seven sisters, Opal Sammons, May Jones, Elsie Donner, Nellie Northington, Dorothy Hilburn, Jane Sammons, Jean Sammons; and a great-grandson, Zachary Riggs.

Survivors include three sons, Danny Cherry (Debi) and Ricky Cherry (Karla), both of Manila, and Dr. Tony Cherry (Penne) of Paragould; two daughters, Karen Hatleli of Manila and Denise Smith (Dr. Duane Smith) of Sparta, Mo.; one brother, Johnny Sammons of Manila. She also leaves nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, in the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila with Dr. Tony Cherry and Dr. Duane Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Manila Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers will be Philip Peek, Steven English, Bryan Cherry, Kyle Cherry, Landen English and Larry Davis. Honorary pallbearers are Chris Cherry and Steven Cherry.
