Alvis Lee Snider

Alvis Lee Snider, 83, of Monette, was born May 29, 1940, on the same farm where he lived when he passed away on Nov. 16, 2023. His parents were Eston and Veria Hodges Snider.

He was united in marriage to Nan Etta Harrell on June 16, 1961. They celebrated their 62nd anniversary this year.

He is survived by two children, Allison Paige Potter, of Memphis, Tenn., and Stephanie Leigh Snider (Danilo Dragoni), of Carson City, Nev.; a brother, Rudy Snider (Patti), of Leachville; two sisters-in law, Susie McAfee, of Jonesboro, and Patti Snider, of Leachville; two grandchildren, Rachel Cupples (Nick) of Cordova, Tenn., and Joshua Potter, of Memphis; a great-grandchild, Cohen Cupples, of Wynne; nephews and nieces, Laura DiCriscio (Brad) of Pottstown, Penn., Crystal Phelps (Brad), of Little Rock, Jerry Harrell McAfee, of Lafe, and Brandon Snider (Paige), of Leachville; great-nephews and nieces, Colton DiCriscio, Lillith McAfee, Sylas Pettit, Natalia DiCriscio, Jagger Snider, and Bodhi Snider; and many beloved, classmates, cousins and friends.

He was a sincere Christian and an active member of the Monette First Baptist Church, where he joyfully served as a greeter. He was a graduate of Monette High School and the University of Arkansas, at Little Rock. He worked as an engineer at Jonesboro, Batesville, Jacksonville, Fayetteville, and Paragould, before becoming the manager of the Monette Co-Op gin for 28 years. He enjoyed most being a farmer and farmed up until the day he died.

He loved playing basketball and baseball in high school and was a track star his junior and senior year, earning several regional and state awards. After high school, he played for independent baseball teams for over 20 years. He was an avid reader, and loved hunting, golf, camping, playing cards, Mexican dominoes, and genealogy. He served on many boards related to agriculture and served several terms on the Monette Co-Op gin board. He was a veteran with the Arkansas National Guard. His very favorite things involved spending time with his wife, his children and grandchildren, as they were the light of his life.

Visitation will be Friday, from 1-3 p.m., at the Monette Baptist Church, with services to immediately follow at 3 p.m. Rev. Stan Ballard will officiate. Interment will follow in the Monette Cemetery under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home in Monette.

Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Brandon Snider, Wayne Ray, W.T. Bibb, Wayne Latting, Jerry Yates, and Keven Varner. Honorary pallbearers are the MHS Class of 1957, Monette Co-Op gin employees, and Co-Op board members.
