Janette McCormick, 84, of Manila, passed from this life Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2023, at Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro. Born in the Monroe Township, Mississippi County, to the late Ollie and Pauline Williams Guthrie, she was raised in the Caraway area. She was a longtime resident in the Milligan Ridge community before making her home in Manila in 1981. She earned her GED and her certification in computer keyboarding at Cotton Boll Vocational School in Burdette. She was a longtime employee of the Manila School District where she served as a bus driver and substitute teacher. Janette was an avid fan of the Manila Lions basketball program. She was a devoted follower of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attended their sporting events with travel baseball and softball, going to events in Nebraska and even Panama. She also enjoyed cooking, baking and sewing. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Wayne McCormick; one grandson, Jared McCormick; two granddaughters, Sarena Halfacre and Lindsay Emfinger; two brothers, George Guthrie and Walter Guthrie; and two sisters, Lula Mae Walls and Martha Dean Mask.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Ervin McCormick of the home; two sons, Chip McCormick (Judy) of Lake City and Jerry McCormick (Debbie) of Jonesboro; two daughters, Suzie Whitehead (Terry) of Sarepta, La., and Betty Stull (Rodney) of Taylor; two sisters, Virginia Muerer of Caraway and Charlene Smith of Gas City, Ind. She also leaves eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
