Mary Ann Langley

Mary Ann Langley, 87, passed away Monday, Sept. 25, 2023, at Hospice of the Ozarks in Mountain Home after a short time with cancer.

Mary Ann was born in Dyersburg, Tenn., and was the daughter of the late Harry Franklin Grimes, Sr. and Dollie Mae (Ulm) Grimes. Her parents moved to Blytheville where Mary lived most of her life.

Mary Ann graduated from Blytheville High School in 1955 and received her Bachelors of Science degree in education in 1967 from Arkansas State University. She worked as a secretary to the principal at Blytheville Junior High School and later taught 6th grade social science at the same school for several years. She then moved to Blytheville High School as the librarian. She set the library up on computer and taught many how to use the system. Mary Ann worked a total of 45 years for the school.

Mary Ann was married to W.T. Lanlgey on Oct. 29, 1955, at New Liberty Baptist Church. For over 67 years, Mary Ann had to double step to keep up with W.T., but she did it! She was always there for him. Mary Ann loved her family and loved to crochet and read, especially history.

She took care of her mother for several years after her father’s passing. She was an outstanding lady, full of wisdom and knowledge. Mary Ann was a Christian. She and W.T. attended North Tenth Street Baptist Church for several years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, W.T. Langley; paternal grandparents, Samuel Franklin Grimes and Dora Hall Grimes; maternal grandfather, John Albert Ulm; sister, Dollie May Krills; brother, Harry F. Grimes, Jr.; brother-in-law, Billy Wayne Langley, Sr.; and sister-in-law, Geraldine Leifieh.

Mary Ann is survived by her daughter, Mechelle Ashmore and her husband Jack, Jr. of Salem; granddaughter, Tiffany Ashmore of Tampa, Fla.; grandson, Christopher Ashmore and his wife Emily of Manila; great-granddaughter, Reagan Ashmore; brother, Ronald Lynn Grimes and his wife Phyllis of Medford, Ore.; brother and sister-in-law, Rev. Thomas and Nola Langley of Springhill, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Linda Sander of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Ruth Ann Langley Lee and her husband Ollie of Cleveland, Tenn.; nieces, Sandy and Kelly; nephews, Scott, Johnny, Ray and Doug; and several other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 28, at 2 p.m. in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Danny Rigney officiating. Burial will follow in Dogwood Cemetery.
