Gussie Mae Depriest

Gussie Mae Depriest, 76, of Luxora, passed away May 31, 2023, at her home. She was born Nov. 6, 1946, in Earle to Percy Brown and Ruthie Hooks Johnson. She was a factory worker, a member of Zion Chapel MB Church in Luxora, the Motherboard, the Usher Board and a member of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Depriest was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Brenda Cannon; and one sister, Mozella Rayford.

She is survived by her husband, James Depriest of Luxora; four sons, Bobby Joe Morris of Sioux City, Iowa, Lloyd Henry (Martha) Morris of Fort Collins, Colo., Vandie (Shay) James of Luxora and James (Tara) Depriest, Jr. of Augusta, Ga.; two daughters, Theresa (James) Martin of Luxora and Farris Bruce of Jonesboro; eight brothers, Maurice Dobbs, Steve Johnson, David Rayford and Willie Hooks of St. Louis, Mo., Tom Johnson, Jr. of Oklahoma City, Okla., Noah Johnson, James Johnson and Moses Johnson of Osceola; three sisters, Clara Williams, Priscilla Branch and Loretta Henry of Osceola; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Saturday, June 10, from 1-2 p.m. with the funeral at 2 p.m. at Zion Chapel MB Church in Luxora with pastor Melvin Taylor officiating. Burial will be at Whiteside Cemetery in Osceola. Wilson Funeral Home in Osceola will be in charge of the services.
