James Howard Douglas, 77, passed away Sunday, Aug. 14, 2022. James made his home in Murfreesboro, Tenn., for the past 20 years, but lived in many places throughout his lifetime including Arkansas, Michigan, Texas and Washington State.

James was born May 8, 1945, at home in a log cabin on Petit Jean Mountain to Nona and John Douglas. He was the fourth child in a family of what would become a total of nine boys. He and his brothers worked alongside their parents to provide for the family in the strawberry and cotton fields of Caraway. When the time came, he left home to serve honorably in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. After returning from the war, he accomplished his goal of staying off the farm and traded his uniform for a suit and tie. He began utilizing his love for numbers by working in the banking industry. He later found his professional calling when he shifted to the financial activities of the Central Business Office for a network of healthcare systems which were located throughout the United States. James enjoyed traveling for both professional and personal visits to various places of interest which included all 50 states and six foreign countries (Philippines, Vietnam, Guam, Japan, Mexico, and Canada).

Being an avid reader, James had an insatiable curiosity for all aspects of World history. He was also one of the few unofficial Douglas family historians; the family could count on him to share carefully researched information. He spent a great deal of time identifying many of the Douglas ancestors in photos from generations long passed.

James had a positive spirit and a generous heart of gold. He had special way of making everyone in the room feel welcome with his warm personality and his thoughtful conversation. His love knew no bounds as James had a close relationship with his neighbors, Trey and Tracy Evans. He was a proud honorary grandpa to their children, Austin, Alexis, Avery and Asher.

He is survived by his eight brothers, Raymond, Charles (Nadine), LeRoy (Maddie), Edwon (Elaine), Joe (Judith), Floyd (Shirley), Alvin, Troy (Betty); half-sister June Wise (Charles); many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Nona and John Douglas; half-sister Geneva Petty; half-brothers, Doyle Morgan and George Douglas; nieces, Tracy Gordon and Markie Collins; and nephew Alan Walth.

Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 19, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Gregg Funeral Home at 911 W, Drew, Monette. Funeral services will follow immediately after the visitation. Interment will be at the Caraway Cemetery in Caraway.
