Jacquin Benson, Sr.

Jacquin Benson, Sr. was born Aug. 25, 1958, in Blytheville, the son of Reverend Blanche Rhodes and Rosa Lee Benson. At an early age, Jacquin accepted Christ into his life and was baptized under the leadership of Reverend T.J. Green. His first pastoral assignment was First Missionary Baptist Church in Blytheville at the age of 19. At the tender age of 23, Jacquin became pastor of Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Caruthersville, Mo. Through the revelations of God, the name has been changed to The Greater Mount Carmel Christian Fellowship, serving as their Shepherd for 35 years. He was a graduate of Blytheville High School Class of 1976. Furthering his education, Jacquin attended Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, graduating with honors, Cum Laude, with a BA degree in criminology.

On Sunday, April 3, 2022, Reverend Jacquin Benson, Sr. passed away at Great River Medical Center at the age of 63. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Blanche Rhodes and Rosa Lee Benson; his stepmother, Sallie Rhodes; two sisters, Robbie Soward and Doris White.

He leaves to cherish the love and laughter his high school sweetheart and wife of 44 years, Thelma Shaw Benson of the home; two sons, Jacquin Benson, Jr. (Shayla Adelowo) of Blytheville and Everett (Brandi) Benson of Jonesboro; one daughter, Kirsten Benson of Blytheville; one sister, Virginia Mosley of Blytheville; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a host nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be held Sunday, April 10, at 1 p.m. at First Missionary Baptist Church, 600 East McHaney Street, Blytheville, where Reverend Odale Jones is the pastor.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. with interment in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
