Warine Sumpter

Warine Sumpter, 88, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Blytheville, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 27, 2022, at NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro. Warine was born June 1, 1933, in Olive Branch, Miss., and was the daughter of Eddie and Juanita Mathis Caldwell. She attended Richard B. Harrison High School and was employed as a beautician in Bronx, N.Y.

Warine was of the Baptist faith and was a member of True Light Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie and Juanita Mathis Cardwell; three brothers, Eddie Cardwell, Willie Cardwell and William Cardwell; and one sister, Lillian Thomas.

Warine leaves to cherish her memories one daughter, Lillian Henderson of Pontiac, Mich.; three grandsons, George Henderson, Sr., Albert Thomas and Isaac Thomas, all of Blytheville; one great-grandson, George Henderson, Jr.; one great-granddaughter, Kyrisha Carter, both of Blytheville; nine great- great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Saturday, April 2, at 11 a.m. at True Light Missionary Baptist Church, 1100 South Lilly Street, Blytheville, where Dr. David Clark is the pastor.

Funeral services will follow at 12:00 noon. Reverend Jay Slaughter will deliver the eulogy with interment in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
