BPD: Stay off roads if possible

Thursday, February 3, 2022

Blytheville police are advising residents to stay off the roads if at all possible.

According to Blytheville Police Chief Ross Thompson and Assistant Police Chief Ricky Jefferson, the ice-covered roads are slick.

Around 8 a.m. Thursday, no major accidents had been reported.

Thompson noted overpasses became nearly impassable early Thursday morning, adding the Highway Department needed a running start to put brine on them.

He said officers are looking out for those walking and if someone needs a ride to the Mission, for instance, police will take them.

Sleet continued to fall around 8 a.m., Thursday, and Thompson noted road conditions could worsen as the day goes on.

He suggested working remotely if possible.
