Wednesday, November 25, 2020

Martha Jo Hawkins, 83, of Leachville, widow of Snowden Hawkins, passed from this life Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2020, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro. Born in the Delfore community, she was the daughter of the late James "Pete" and Florene Smith Manis and was a 1954 graduate of Childress High School. A lifelong Leachville area resident, Martha had worked for the former Delfore Gin and later for the Monette and Leachville State Banks before taking a more vital role in the family farm. Together with her late husband they grew a small family farm into one of largest family owned operations in the area. Following her retirement she enjoyed gardening, working in her yard, and the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Leachville and as a natural caregiver she found her calling by serving others in the church bereavement ministry. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by three brothers, J.C. Manis, Leon Manis and Robert Manis, and three sisters, Edith Keith, Evelyn McKelvey and Ruby Jackson.

Survivors include one son, Cole Hawkins (Kerin) of Leachville; two daughters, Shawn Hawkins of Memphis, Tenn., and Teresa Hubbard of Clearwater, Fla.; six grandchildren; Justin Hawkins (Taffy), Mark Hawkins (Sarah), Heath Hawkins (Madison), Johnny Hubbard, Zachary Hubbard and Courtney Hubbard; six great-grandchildren, Jansen, Addison, Evie Kayte, Greenleigh, Slade and Sawyer. She also leaves two sisters, Iva Goodman of Tomball, Texas, and Jamie Johnson (Doug) of Bella Vista.

Due to the pandemic a memorial service will be announced at a later time. The family prefers any memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Leachville, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or a charity of one's choice. Friends may sign the online guest register at www.HowardFuneralService.com.
