Martin Davenport left this world peacefully on Oct. 20, 2019, at the age of 93. He was born Jan. 8, 1926, to Reuben and Sadie Prewett Davenport. He married Laverne Pruett Davenport in Piggott on Aug. 17, 1946. He served on the USS Gwen in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Senath First Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge. During his lifetime some of his work included driving a gas truck for Sinclair, farming, and working for the Senath-Hornersville School System.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Pete Davenport and Bill Davenport; and daughter, Jekita Davenport Zolman. He is survived by his wife of 73 years; daughter, Alesa “Lea” Tackeberry and husband Butch; son-in-law, Lyman Zolman; granddaughters, Stephanie Zolman Law and husband David, Devon Lea Wheeler and husband Jay, Jessica Zolman Smith and husband Aaron; and seven great-grandchildren, Nathan, Ryan and Landon Law, Olivia and Aubrey Wheeler, and Ethan and Elliot Smith.

Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at McDaniel Funeral home in Senath. Funeral service was performed by dear friend, Brother Doug Clinton, at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at First Baptist Church in Senath with burial following at LuLu Cemetery.

Pallbearers were David Law, Jay Wheeler, Aaron Smith, Vernon Stoker, Landon Law and Mitchell Davenport. Honorary pallbearers were Paul Stout, Lyman Zolman, Nathan Law, Ryan Law, Butch Tackeberry and Harold Lee Watson.
