Sallie Elizabeth Hazel, 99, of Monroe, La., died Sept. 8, 2005, at St. Joseph Nursing Home in Monroe, La. She was a homemaker, attended Monette First Baptist Church, and was a member of Elizabeth Sunday School Class. She was a charter member of Monette Library Board and Monette Garden Club. She was an accredited flower judge where she judged many flower shows in Northeast Arkansas. She had a love of flowers and was widely acclaimed for beautiful roses she grew and gladly furnished for weddings, showers and other events. Mrs. Hazel lived most of her life in the Monette area.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Mary Hazel of West Monroe, La.; grandchildren, Charmain Kauosky and husband, Mike, of Jackson, Miss., Stephen and wife, Joni Hazel, of Lonetree, Colo., Louise Jenkins and husband, Charles, and Jeffrey Hazel, both of New Orleans, La., Dr. Mark Hazel and wife Fran, of Rockwall, Texas, and Christopher and wife, Karen Hazel, of Pineville, La.; 10 great-grandchildren, Taulben Hazel, Amy Hazel, Simms Hazel, Tapp Hazel, Shelby Hazel, and Sydney Hazel, Maddox and Brik Hazel, and Lieutenant Edward Jenkins, and Ben Jenkins.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Pete and Stella Tapp; her husband, George Hazel; two sons, Lowell and Dean Hazel; and a brother Manuel Tapp.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Monette First Baptist Church with Rev. William Piercy officiating. Burial was in the Monette Cemetery under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Monette.

Pallbearers were Paul Kennett, Don Kennett, Fred Kennett, Robert Flannigan, Bob Blankenship and Dr. Robert Flannigan.
