A.J. Lane - Caraway

A.J. Lane, 81, of Caraway, died May 15, 2005, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.

He was a retired repairman for United Telephone Company, of the Baptist faith, veteran of the U.S. Marines, and had lived most of his life in Caraway.

He is survived by three sisters, Shelby Short and Dorothy McBee, both of Paragould, and Marlene Baskin of Warcella, Alaska; three brothers, Raben Clark of Greensboro, S.C., Willie Lane of Abbyville, La., and Buster Lane of Niles, Mich.; a son, Jimmy Lane of Caraway; a daughter, Robin Toombs of Caraway; two grandsons, Michael Toombs of Paragould and Christopher Lane of Caraway; a great-grandson, Hunter Toombs of Lake City; two great-grand daughters, Katie and Emily Toombs of Paragould.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Hugh and Grace Lane, his wife, Betty Lou Lane, a brother and two sisters. Mrs. Lane was raised by Delbert and Debbie Clark of Caraway.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Caraway First Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Stevens officiating. Burial was in the Caraway Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Monette.

Active pallbearers were Merritt Emery, Michael Emery, Gary Don Hurst, Darren Dunkerson, Mike Sneed, and Mike Cosby. Honorary pallbearers were former employees of United Telephone Company, Jerry Reed, Glen Rolland, Jim Fraser, Homer Carter, Lucille McCarty, Marsha Chambers, Bud Cannon, and Wayne Hogan.
