Oh, what has happened to my eyes? This week I had the privilege of visiting the Wiley Center and watching the preschoolers participate in an event that celebrates Arkansas Children's Week. The last time I walked through that building was probably 20 years ago or more and it was called Franklin Elementary at the time. The place has changed a lot, but I still heard many echoes of the past as I walked on the campus and through the building. That visit affected me more than I could have expected...

The Osceola School District has requested a special election for a proposed school millage increase, according to Mississippi County Election Coordinator George Hale. Hale told the county's election commission Friday morning that the date requested for the special election is June 28. Early voting will be held the previous week at the Osceola Courthouse, with election day voting set by the commission to be held in the Main Street building...

ARMOREL -- The Armorel Tigers trailed the 4A Pocahontas Redskins, 9-0, heading into the bottom of the fifth inning Friday night. Armorel came back to score 10 unanswered runs and pulled off a 10-9 win. With the game tied 9-9 in the bottom of the seventh, Brett Harris drew a bases loaded walk scoring Nieko Sorrentino to end the game. Sorrentino lead off the inning getting hit by a pitch and made it all the way to third on Nash Winters' bunt...

ARMOREL -- The Amorel Lady Tigers posted a 4-1 win over the Riverside Lady Rebels. Katie Weld allowed a run on three hits while striking out six in seven complete innings of work. Riverside picked a run on two hits in the fourth inning for its only scoring opportunity of the night...

The "Spring Carnival" is scheduled for April 27-30 at the Mississippi County Fairgrounds. The gates open at 6 nightly and 3 p.m. that Saturday. Arm bands will be available for $15 each day. P.B.J. Happy Days Shows of West Memphis will once again provide the rides. The Fall Fair will be held Aug. 23-27. Gates will open at the same times as the spring carnival...
