Dems set convention to fill spot

The Democratic Party of Mississippi County will hold a special convention to select a candidate for the District 2 seat on the Mississippi County Quorum Court. The session will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28. Those interested in running for the position are asked to send a resume and cover letter to the party chairman, Gary Phillips, at 1133 Leawood, Blytheville, AR 72315 or e-mail to garyph@swbell.net. EOC donates $8K for local parks

The Mississippi County Arkansas Economic Opportunity Commission has donated $8,000 for the upkeep and maintenance of Williams and Cypress parks in Blytheville. Scruggs said Council president R.L. Jones approached him about the donation recently. Scruggs added the funding should help the city until the 1/4-cent parks and recreation tax money becomes available next spring...
