Stacy Byford of Manila was surprised to find a tomato plant growing out of her concrete steps leading to her front porch. The plants started coming through in July and just kept on growing. Town Crier News Staff Manila principals updated school board members on the start of the 2006-07 school year at the September meeting Thursday. Diane Baugher, elementary principal, reported an enrollment of 408 in kindergarten through the fourth grade with 32 students in pre-kindergarten for a total of 440. BIC School Board fills positions

The Buffalo Island School board met on Monday evening, Sept. 18, at junior high library on the Leachville campus and worked through a lengthy three and a half hour agenda. The board accepted the resignation of Scott Synder as senior high school special education instructor. Mike Kinard was hired to fill that position.
