Willie J. Willis Sr.
Willie J. Willis Sr., 84, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2024, in Luxora, at the home which he shared with his beloved wife of 60 years, Rosie Willis. Mr. Willis was born Oct. 19, 1939, in Birmingham, Ala., to the late Oliver Willis and Annie Bell Amerson. Willie dedicated part of his life serving in the United States Air Force before retiring as a guidance counselor for the Department of Defense.
He is survived by his wife, Rosie Willis, of Luxora; his children, Willie J. Willis Jr. of Chicago, Ill., Timothy Willis (Audrey) of West Memphis, Gregory Willis (Renee) of College Park, Md., Fredrick Willis (Nanecia) of Olive Branch, Miss., Jonathan E.S. Willis of Luxora and Dr. Sherita Willis-Adams (Angelo) of West Memphis. Willie also leaves behind a brother, Elbert Amerson (Regina) of Adamsville, Ala.; two sisters, Sadie Pruitt of Adamsville, Ala., and Lillie Jean Gilcrest (Sammie) of Birmingham, Ala.; along with 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Oliver, Leon, Elijah, Eddie Ray Willis and George Amerson; and his sister, Lois Carmichael.
A committed member of Bethlehem M.B. Church, his faith played a significant role in his life. Willie’s funeral services will be held at Bethlehem M.B. Church, Osceola, with visitation on Saturday, Aug. 3, from 1-2p.m., followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m., officiated by Dr. Moses Black. The committal service will take place at Whiteside Cemetery, Osceola. with military honors.
