Floyd (Robert) Martin

Tuesday, May 30, 2023

Floyd (Robert) Martin was born in Chicago, Ill. His best childhood memories include going to a Christian elementary school, family picnics in the parks, and visiting the amazing museums. He was a scholar who enjoyed learning from a very young age.

He and his family moved back home to Blytheville to be near extended family. His best memories were full of times with all his family, especially the big 4th of July celebrations, tooling around town with high school friends in his Bronco, fishing with his dad, and working in his parents’ business, the M and K Restaurant.

After graduation, he and his parents relocated to the Houston area. They eventually settled in College Station, Texas, and Robert became part of the Aggie family. He graduated from Texas A and M in 1995.

Robert was a student of many things, including economics, business, mathematics, history and education. He decided to put all his knowledge to good use and join his parents in the family apartment maintenance business serving the Bryan/College Station community.

In 2008 he married Kathy (White) Martin. Their best times together were spent hanging out with their fur babies, going to live music, spending time with family and friends and watching the setting sun. They especially enjoyed traveling. Their favorite trips involved visiting family or relaxing on a beautiful beach.

Robert was a part of Grace Bible Church (Anderson Campus) for many years and he especially enjoyed men’s retreats and the Koinonia class. He also was part of a community men’s Bible study group and loved bringing world history into the stories of the Word to help others understand the Bible in new ways.

Robert was a strong advocate for the second amendment. Whether at home or on vacation, Robert was always happy to teach family and friends about gun safety and firearm techniques.

In 2018, he retired from the maintenance business and began working at Blinn College as a carpentry instructor. He loved teaching “his boys” and according to him, he never worked another day in his life when he started teaching. He was very proud to share the profession of his best friend, Jesus, The Carpenter.

To honor Robert’s love of teaching, the Robert Martin Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established to help with scholarships for graduating seniors in College Station ISD who intend to go to school for training in carpentry. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Lillie Martin, as well as grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and many family pets. He is survived by his wife, Kathy, his favorite 4-legged girl Gracie, as well as family and friends he loved so very much and prayed for often.

Robert was known for his kindness and his positive attitude. He always wanted to leave people smiling. Let’s do the same.

To honor Robert, please consider registering to be an organ donor.
