Jimmie Garland Simpson, 76, of Blytheville, passed away Saturday, Dec. 4, 2021.

Jimmie was born in Lilbourn, Mo., to Thomas and Evelyn Rains Simpson, the youngest of five children. Jimmie grew up in Luxora and graduated from Luxora High School in 1963 at the age of 17. Jimmie served his country with honor in the United States Navy where he served for three years as a “Kiddie Cruiser” on the U.S.S. Dalghren DLG12 working in the boiler room. He shipped out of Norfolk, Vir., and spent time in Italy, Greece and on the coast of Vietnam. Jimmie completed his pipefitter career working for General Motors at the St. Louis Assembly plant from 1967 until its closure. He then transferred to the Wentzville Assembly plant for a total of 36.3 years. The majority of his work career was spent working in maintenance in the paint department. He retired in November 2003 and relocated back to Blytheville. Jimmie was avid outdoorsman and loved to work in his garden or go fishing. He also enjoyed doing mechanic work and traveling.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Clara Williams.

Jimmie is survived by his wife, Constance Sue Wipke Simpson of the home; children, Jeff Simpson of DeSoto, Mo., Russell Simpson of Blytheville, Wendy Bucker of Wright City, Mo., and Tiffany Helling of Ouray, Colo.; grandchildren, Beth Simpson of Jonesboro and Dylan Bucker of Blytheville; brothers, Tommy Simpson of Dell and Richard “Slick” Simpson of Blytheville; sister, Bobbie Lucas of Imboden; brother-in-law, Jerry Williams of Maben, Miss.; and a beloved nephew, Richie Simpson of Dell.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 9, at 11 a.m. in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
