During Wednesday’s weekly Covid update, Blytheville Mayor James Sanders reported active cases are down by 68 from the previous week in Mississippi County.

As of Wednesday, there were 194 active cases in the county, while there were 492 active in Craighead County, down from 661 the previous week. Crittenden County had 137 on Wednesday, down from 260; Greene 290, down from 353; and Poinsett 113, down from 138.

“To be at 194, we’ve done a really good job and we want to keep doing that,” Miss Co Health Officer Dr. Andrews-Pirtle said. “But be mindful, we still have to keep working, we still have to wear our masks. People are getting vaccinated, which is wonderful.”

“We are glad to see the trending is moving in a downward direction,” Mayor Sanders said, adding residents should continue to wash their hands and wear masks.

Dr. Pirtle encouraged community members to take advantage of the flu and Covid vaccines being offered Saturday at the 40th Annual Blytheville Chili Cook-off. There will be a vaccine clinic from 8-10 a.m., Saturday, at the historic Greyhound Bus Station, and Gosnell Drugs will provide Covid and flu shots during the Chili Cook-off.
