Ruth Annette Carter, 81, of Topeka, Kan., formerly of Cardwell, widow of Paul Carter, passed from this life Monday, Oct. 4, 2021, at the Aldersgate Village Assisted Living Center in Topeka. Born in Dudley, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Lois Morgan Woolard. Ruth was a 1957 graduate of Dexter High School in Dexter, Mo. She attended Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Mo., before completing her education at the former Arkansas State College in Jonesboro where she received her teaching degree in elementary education. She taught in various school districts in Missouri, retiring in 2001 after 30 plus years of service. Ruth enjoyed reading, working in her flower garden, cooking and sewing. She was a member of Antioch Church of Christ in Cardwell where she taught Sunday School for many years. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Gilbert Woolard and Samuel Woolard; and one sister, Velma Stewart.

Survivors include her daughter, Phyllis Rogers (Bret) of Beebe; two brothers, Kim Woolard of Piedmont, Mo., and Vaden Woolard of Mill Springs, Mo.; four sisters, Faye Keathley of Mill Springs, Daphne Richardson of Frenchtown, Mont., Reba Lam of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Renee Hunt of Topeka, Kan. She also leaves two grandchildren, Claire Cooley and Nathan Hounsel (Kayla), and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Leachville with Mr. David Flanrey officiating. Burial will follow in the Cardwell Cemetery. The family will receive visitors Sunday from 1 p.m. until service time. The family prefers any memorials sent be made to Children's Home, Inc. of Paragould.
