Richard J. King, 76, of Blytheville, passed away Friday, Aug. 13, 2021, at his home.

Richard was born in Blytheville to Richard M. and Hattie Elliott King and was a graduate of Arkansas State University. He served as a justice of the peace on the Mississippi County Quorum Court from 1977-1986. In 1986, he ran for state senator. Richard was a man of faith and was saved at an early age. He was a faithful member of Beacon Baptist Church until his health prevented him from attending. Richard was the former owner of City Ice Company before retiring in 1996. After retirement, Richard went to work for the United States Postal Service. He spent many years as a rural mail carrier and retired in 2011.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry King.

Richard is survived by his wife, Ruth King of the home; children, Tammy Conner of Dell and Jesse Cartwright and his wife Heather of Hutchinson, Kan.; brother, David King and his wife Corena of Paragould; grandchildren, Sarah Conner, James Conner and his wife Mary Jane, Max Elam and Lucy Elam; nephew, Jerry King; and niece, Anglia Herron.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Aug. 15, at 2 p.m. in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Albert Camp officiating. Burial was private. There was no visitation. At the request of the family, face masks were worn at all times and social distancing implemented. The family requests memorials be made to Beacon Baptist Church or the Blytheville Scholarship Fund.
