Richard Wayne Nokes

Richard Wayne Nokes was born April 27, 1940, in the Promised Land farming community outside of Blytheville and died Friday, Feb. 5, 2021, in Memphis, Tenn., surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul E. Nokes and Algus Russell Nokes.

A CPA, he was a member of the AICPA, TSCPA and Memphis Chapter of CPAs. His 60-year work career was 100 percent associated with automobile dealerships. During that time, he provided professional services to dealers in 44 of 48 continental states, Puerto Rico, and consulting services to Canadian dealers.

He graduated Paragould High School, Paragould, in 1958 being voted Best Date and Cutest Boy and having won seven letters in high school sports. He was on one of the last teams coached by Jack Dale.

“Paw Paw” was known for his jokes (especially lawyer jokes), encouraging ‘his girls’ to be ready on time, his love of Arkansas Razorbacks, cooking the best bacon, trips to the beach with his family, golfing with his buddies, telling stories, but mostly for his devoted love to his bride, Judy, of 46 years.

Dick is survived by Judy Irby Nokes, his wife; daughters, Sara Nokes Lindley (Jeff) of Greenville, S.C., and Emily Nokes Turngren (Jeff) of Millington, Tenn.; grandchildren, Ella Lindley and Jack Lindley, Amelia Martin and Silas Turngren; brother, Phillip Nokes (Glenda) of Bismark; and many other family members and friends.

He was a member of Germantown Presbyterian Church. Previous church memberships were Second Presbyterian Church and Raleigh United Methodist Church.
