Tommy Newton Bennett, Jr., 70, of Blytheville, passed away Friday, December 18, 2020 at Great River Medical Center.

Tommy was born in Blytheville to Tommy N. “Tom” and Robin Gill Bennett. He was retired from the Blytheville Fire Department and the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Department. Tommy was a lifelong area resident and was a member of First Baptist Church. Tommy was the truancy coordinator for Blytheville School District, was a former Blytheville School Board President, past member of the Blytheville Chickasaws Booster Club and the past president of the Blytheville Band Parents club. Tommy also served as a former adjunct instructor for the Arkansas State Fire Academy, a past member of the State Sheriff Association Honor Guard, and was a member of the Ray “Red” Gill cooking team.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Barbara Lowe.

Tommy leaves his wife, Treena Johnson Bennett of the home; two daughters, Tamara “TJ” Hicks and her husband Troy of Blytheville and Trudy Landry and her husband Kevin of Blytheville; four grandchildren, Tiffany Thaxton and Rikki, Tanner Hicks, Tyler Landry and Tate Landry; one great-granddaughter, Leila Barrett; one sister, Charlotte Staggs of Little Rock, Arkansas; three brothers-in-law, Garald Johnson of Memphis, Ralph Johnson and his wife Debbie of Lamar, Arkansas and Jim Lowe of Blytheville; and one sister-in-law, Mary Jo Johnson of Memphis.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 22nd from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home. There will be a private family service. Following the State of Arkansas COVID-19 guidelines, no more than 50 people will be allowed to gather inside of Cobb Funeral Home and practice social distancing, keeping a 6-foot distance between one another.
