Vernon Allen Coggin, 92, of Jonesboro, former longtime Caraway resident, passed from this life Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020, at the Lakeside Nursing Center in Lake City. Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Walter and Elois Mooney Coggin and was a 1948 graduate of the former Central High School in Caraway. He was a retired farmer, having operated two farming operations in Arkansas and Mississippi, and a member of Longview Heights Baptist Church in Olive Branch, Miss. Vernon enjoyed hunting and classic cars, but most of all, spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Dorothy Jean Coggin of the home; three sons, Terry Allen Coggin of Hernando, Miss., Ronald Steven Coggin (Jenny) of Springdale and Michael Patrick Coggin (Judy) of Jonesboro; one brother, Donald Gene Coggin of Jonesboro. He also leaves three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, in the Caraway Cemetery under the direction of Howard Funeral and Cremation Service in Manila. No visitation is scheduled.
