Eugene Martin

Eugene Martin, 87, of Monette, formerly of Manila, passed from this life Monday, Oct. 12, 2020, at Gosnell Health and Rehab Center. Born in Manila, he was the son of the late James William and Sinnie Sandusky Martin and had been a longtime Monette resident. Eugene was retired from the U.S. Navy, serving in the Korean War and the Vietnam War era retiring in 1971. Eugene found salvation in his late years of life and was a member of the River of Life Pentecostal Church in Paragould. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Daisy Alsup Martin, his second wife, Wanda Sharp Martin, and five brothers.

He is survived by two sons, Larry Martin (Joey) of Manila and Michael Martin; one daughter, Diane Martin of Florida. He also leaves a special nephew, Earnest Martin, Jr., of Manila and dear friends and caregivers, LaDonna and Benny Smithee of Monette.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila with Rev. Bryce Smithee officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Manila Cemetery under the direction of Howard Funeral Service. The family will receive visitors Friday from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. In compliance with state guidelines, attendance will be limited and social distancing practiced.
