Violet Evelyn Carney, 99, of Blytheville passed away Dec. 26, 2019, at Gosnell Healthcare and Rehab.

She was one month away from her 100th birthday.

She was born Jan. 26, 1920, in Holland Mo., to Henry Willard Ladd and Gertie Jones Ladd. She was Church of Christ all of her life.

After graduating high school in Holland, Mo., she soon married Felix Carney and moved to Blytheville.

She worked at Jeidel's Clothing Store for a while. Later she retired from the Blytheville Hospital where she had worked in the insurance billing department.

After retirement, she volunteered in the hospital gift shop.

Her hobbies included reading and playing Mexican train dominoes. She was a great cook and loved to cook.

She always baked her niece's birthday cakes. In her younger years she was on a bowling league and was also a member of a ladies card club.

She loved stray cats and dogs and always made sure to put food out for them.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and all but one of her siblings.

She is survived by a sister, Jonell Stiles, of Blytheville; two nieces, Nan Stiles of Little Rock and Pat Utley of Tempe, Ariz.; two nephews, Tommy and Mabalee Carney and Mike and Carrie Carney, both of Blytheville; seven great-nephews, Joe Carney, Rick Carney, Alan Carney, Richard Ladd Stiles, Jr., William Michael Stiles, William David Todt, and Stan Bell; two great-nieces, Susan Myers of Blytheville and Kelly Bell of Tempe, Ariz.

The family would like to offer thank you to the staff of Gosnell Healthcare and Rehab for her final days of care.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, in Carney Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Tommy Carney officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
