Peggy Lou Johnston

Peggy Lou Johnston, 80, of Luxora, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2019, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis.

Peggy was born in Keiser to Ben and Beatrice Oakley. She was a retired beautician and a member of First Baptist Church, Luxora, where she taught Sunday school for many years. Peggy volunteered as a Pink Lady at South Mississippi County Hospital in Osceola and was the president of the Luxora Book Club. Peggy loved to read, cook and relax at Heber Springs at the lake.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Joe Oakley.

Peggy leaves her husband, Bob Johnston of the home; two sons, Joel Johnston and his wife Jamie of Marion and Benjie Johnston of Luxora; one brother, Richard Oakley and his wife Nancy of Mobile, Ala.; two sisters, Shirley Stovall and her husband Buddy of Osceola and Bendona Conrad of Heber Springs; one sister-in-law, Edith Oakley Brown of St. Louis, Mo.; and three grandchildren, Trey Johnston of Conway, Tyler Johnston of Cave Springs and Regan Johnston of Rogers; and a host of nieces, nephews, loved ones and friends.

A celebration of Peggy’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at First Baptist Church, Luxora, with Rev. Matt Corkran and Rev. Alan Barron officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time at Luxora Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to First Baptist Church, Luxora.
