Sylvia Mae Smith

Sylvia Mae Smith, 93, of Jonesboro, former Leachville resident, died Friday, Aug. 16, 2019, at the Lakeside Nursing Center in Lake City. Born in Sulpher Rock, she was the daughter of the late Commodore “CD” and Ella Lewis Gilmore and had been a longtime Leachville resident before making her home in Jonesboro in 1986. She was retired from the former Brown Shoe Company in Leachville and was a member of the Nettleton Church of Christ.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her children, Monroe Goff; one son, Don “Red” Goff; two brothers, Ophus Gilmore and Odell Gilmore; two sisters, Marie Massey and Mable McLeod; two grandchildren, Lisa Gail Woodral and Steven Sheets; and two great-grandchildren, Jimmy Clay Woodral and Elizabeth Sheets.

She is survived by two daughters, Marie Miller (Robert) of Jonesboro and Glenda Gordon of Paragould; three granddaughters, Starr Hill, Angie Rowland, and Tammy Williams Westman. She also leaves 11 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23, in the Leachville Cemetery under the direction of Howard Funeral Service of Leachville.
