Marvin Leland Grooms

Marvin L. “Tussle” Grooms, 93, of Paducah, Ky., former longtime Leachville resident, passed from this life Saturday, May 25, 2019, in Paducah. Born in the Happy Corner community, he was the son of the late Edmond and Evah Jackson Grooms and had lived most of his life in the Leachville area. A United States Marine Corps veteran, he returned to the family farm following World War II. Marvin retired from Borg-Warner Automotive in Blytheville and had also worked several years for Houseworth Hotels. He attended the Assembly of God in Leachville.

In 2014, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Laverne Seymore Grooms. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by four brothers, Elman Grooms, Jim Grooms, Lonnie Grooms and Vernon Grooms, and four sisters, Nellie Mobley, Flossie Jeffrey, Finetta Baird and Marvoline Purcell.

Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Grooms Chandler Dement (Dickie) of Paducah, Ky.; one grandson, Lance Chandler (Sharla) of Baxter Springs, Kan.; one great-granddaughter, Annah Cynclaire Stovall of Baxter Springs, Kan.

Funeral service will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Leachville with Rev. Tom Newman and Rev. E.H. Jeffrey officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Leachville Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
