Lavene Simpson

Lavene Simpson (nee Prince), 87, of Michigan City, Ind., passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at Life Care Center in Valparaiso, Ind. She was born Aug. 5, 1931 in Monette to Emmett and Dessie Lee (Foresythe) Prince who preceded her in death.

Lavene is survived by her children, Larry D. (Marian) Simpson, Daniel G. (Shawnie) Simpson and Marsha A. (Ray) Tappan; grandchildren, Sandi (Craig) Martin, Dawn (Adam) Dobrzeniecki, Chad Kaiser, Timothy Simpson and Stacy (Anthony) Johnson; great-granchildren, Fiona, Ewing, Chase, Haylee, Harlin, Alianna, Adelynn and Blake.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Larry G. Simpson and siblings, Jewel Bibb, Juanita Davidson, Berlin Prince, Oma Copeland, Ernway Prince, and Christine Williams.

Lavene and her husband had farmed while living in Arkansas. She was employed at the Toll Road Restaurant and St. Anthony Hospital after moving to Michigan City. Lavene was a member of Church of Christ. She was a dedicated homemaker, who enjoyed cooking, fishing, shopping and the love of her family. Lavene and her husband operated Rouser Fishing Charters out of Michigan City for 15 years.

Those wishing to pay their respects are invited to Geisen-Carlisle Funeral Home located at 613 Washington St. Michigan City, Ind. 46360 on Monday, April 22, from 4-7 p.m. and on Tuesday, April 23, from 10:30-11 a.m.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, at Geisen-Carlisle Funeral Home with Pastor Daniel Simpson of Church of Christ officiating.

Burial will follow at Beatty’s Corner Cemetery, Michigan City, Ind.

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Lavene may be given to Church of Christ.
