James “Sonny” Homer Power

James “Sonny” Homer Power, 81, of Keiser passed from this life on Saturday, March 9, 2019, at NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro. Born to Homer M. and Finnie L. Wilson Power in Choctaw County, Miss., he was an area resident for most of his life. James was a retired longtime heavy equipment operator for MAFES in Starkville, Miss., and Stracener Construction Company of Blytheville, and a member of the Wood Springs Baptist Church. James loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was also a dedicated, loving, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. James was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Iva Jean Ming Power, and two sisters.

James is survived by his wife of 27 years, Betty Sue Bell Sloan Power of Monette; children, Nicky and Ann Power of Mathiston, Miss., Lori Ann and Dave Kerr of Weir, Miss., Leva and Harvey Tillman of Armorel, Roger and Kathy Sloan of Armorel, John Sloan of Blytheville, Jana Regan of LaGrange, Ga.; 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, in the New Haven Baptist Church Cemetery located at 9425 Stewart Weir Road, Stewart, MS 39767 with Rev. Mark Mayo officiating. There will be no visitation and condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.cobbfuneralhome.com.
