Early voting underway

Blytheville Fire Chief Mike Carney prepares to vote on Friday. As of Friday afternoon, 358 voters in Blytheville have cast early votes for Tuesday’s special election, which calls for extending the current 1/2-cent hospital tax 30 years, with 1/3 of those funds used to renovate the Blytheville courthouse and work at the Osceola courthouse. In Leachville, 88 had cast votes mid-afternoon Friday; and in Osceola, 92. In October 2014, the five-year hospital tax won 60 percent of the vote with around 2,500 in the county participating in the special election. For comparison, the Friday before election day in 2014, 550 had cast early votes in Blytheville, 150 in Osceola, 50 in Manila and 40 in Leachville. Early voting continues Monday at the Mississippi County Election Center and Election Day is Tuesday.
