Jerry Dean Simpson, 76, passed away Monday, Sept. 3, 2018 at his home. He was born Jan. 28, 1942, in Milligan Ridge to the late Clarence and Lydia Ford Simpson. Jerry served his country proudly in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War. He worked in the citrus industry in Florida and retired from American Greeting after 28 years with perfect attendance. He enjoyed fishing and building anything and loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a good friend who enjoyed helping people. He was a devoted grandpa and will be remembered as an honest and fair man.

He is survived by his children, Donna Coggin (Brock) of Caraway, Melba Stevens (Bub) of Big Flat, Lori Poag (John) of Caraway, Tommy Simpson (Dessie) and Sam Massey, all of Harriet; two sisters, Veneal Gates and Karen Chandler, both of Savannah, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Simpson; an infant son, Jimmy Dale Simpson; a grandson, Eric Lee Pate; a brother, Jimmy Wilkins, and a sister, Ann Martin.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at Gregg Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Guzman officiating. Interment will follow at Caraway Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from noon until time of service Friday at Gregg Funeral Home in Monette.

Honored to serve as pallbearers were John, Brock, Sam, Chelcie, Bub, Mark and Lupe and as honorary pallbearers, Donavan Thomas, Christopher Thomas, Clayton Stevens, Wes Poag, Tommy Simpson and Roland Ross.
