Melvis Ellis

Melvis Ellis, 97, of Blytheville, passed away Monday, August 27, 2018 at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Melvis was born in Vardaman, Mississippi to Joseph and Leona (Easley) Ellis. He was a farmer until 1969 when he went to work for M-G Transports. He was a member of Cole Ridge Baptist Church. Melvis served his country with honor in the United States Army during World War II. He loved being outdoors working in his yard and garden or hunting and fishing, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Langley Ellis; his parents; and two sisters, Velera Baker and Virginia McGhee.

Melvis leaves two sons, Lamar Ellis of Blytheville and Rick Ellis and his wife Dianna of Garfield, Arkansas; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a very special caregiver, Willie McKinney.

The family would like to thank the Mississippi County Senior Citizens Center for their friendship, care and compassion for Melvis for the past 20 years.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 30th at 3:00 p.m. in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Hyde officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
