Sue Battles

Sue McGee Battles, age 85 of the Hermondale, Missouri area passed from this life on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at the NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Born to Samuel Dewitt “Sam“ and Beulah Agnes Morrow McGee in Blytheville. She was a lifelong area resident, a proud graduate of the 1951 Class of Blytheville High School and a member of the Trinity Baptist Church. Sue was a retired Southwestern Bell Telephone Operator in Blytheville and in Jonesboro after the Blytheville facility was closed. More than a church member, Sue was also a member of the Joy Sunday School Class and over the years she taught the 1st through 3rd grade Sunday School Class. Sue also found time to serve on the Hospitality Committee at Trinity Baptist Church, serving as a Past Chairman. She loved to help in the planning of the church events. Her life was an example of who she believed in and what she taught. With Sue, “it was practice what you preach”. Sue was also a member of the Funtimers Ukulele Band which was led by Bill Hurst. They were a well know group who loved to entertain. She took voice lessons in high school and sang as a soloist at numerous weddings and church events. She was a member of The Yarbro Trio that also performed at many events. Sue was also an excellent cook and enjoyed it whether she was cooking for her family or for one of the many meals she prepared for church fellowship dinners. Sue also loved to travel and always looked forward to the trips she would make with her sister, Learah White, and her nephew and his wife, Larry and Bonnie McGee.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russell Bert Battles; Son, Russell “Russ” Battles Jr.; Sons-in-law, Steve Mc Donald and Tom Johnson; Brothers, Quinton McGee, Thurman McGee and Travis McGee; Sisters, Mollie Williams, Edrie Gaines, Agnes Boyd and Azelle Lester.

Sue is survived by her children; Susan Battles McDonald of the Hermondale/State Line Community and Teresa Battles Johnson of Senath, Missouri; Grandchildren; Jennifer Battles Thomas and husband, Thad of Columbia, Mississippi, Jarrod Johnson and wife Christy of Hornersville, Missouri, Jordan Allen of Blytheville, Arkansas, Dustin Johnson and wife, Karely of Senath, Missouri and Mark McDonald and wife, Abby of Blytheville, Arkansas; Great grandchildren, Kennedy Thomas, Sloan Thomas, Jayci Johnson, Kamila Johnson, Olivia McDonald and Whit McDonald; sister, Learah McGee White of Smithfield, Utah; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who loved her dearly.

Funeral Services will be conducted, Saturday morning, June 30, 2018 at 11:00 am in the Sanctuary of Trinity Baptist Church with the Reverend Mike Welch officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery and the family will receive friends from 10:00 am until service time also at Trinity Baptist Church.
